Summary: The aim of this study is to explore ethical dimensions in the teaching profession, by studying ethical conflicts in teachers' everyday life in relation to students, parents and colleagues. Another issue is to explore the variation among teachers in their solutions to ethical conflicts. The empirical methods used to collect data are critical incidents and interviews. Teacher ethics as well as teacher professionalism are found to concern two types of moral responsibilities. One follow from teachers' mission to serve society. De yrkesetiska lomflikterna sätts i relation till skolan som institution och avslöjar olika yrkesspecifika villkor som skapar yrkesetiska konflikter i läraryrket. Lärares ambivalens framkommer särskilt inom tre vitala områden för läraryrket; omsorg om den enskilda eleven, den kollegiala lojalitetens imperativ och elevens rätt till självbestämmande.

Studien baseras på intervjuer av lärare och lärares skriftliga rapporter av yrkesetiska konflikter i grundskolan. De yrkesetiska lomflikterna sätts i relation till skolan som institution och avslöjar olika yrkesspecifika villkor som skapar yrkesetiska konflikter i läraryrket.
